A fast pace book….

Wow! Perhaps the subject matter is uncomfortable but the storyline and the powerful twists and turns are better than a dodgem car ride. Characters are created with great skill and the background knowledge needed to proceed to write in this genre is so sound and clear. Could not put it down!

I love Joffe books and when I began to read Dead of Night I expected a police procedural/crime novel. What I was not expecting (to my pleasant surprise) was a dark and alarming thriller that plays on every parent’s worst nightmare in the most disturbing manner – and I loved every uncomfortable minute of it.

Harrowing, brutal , gruesome and very very clever! DI Temple is a character with very realistic human (and male) flaws, but as a female reader his predicaments drew me in rather than putting me off. Looking forward to the next instalment to learn more about the central mystery of his mother’s murder, as well as new and twisty crimes for him to solve. Writing is concise, professional and as noted, very clever. Well done!

A book about misfits. From the police officers through to the girls, and boys, that are working a mules for the drug dealers. DI Temple has been sidelined at work, is being divorced by his wife and is settled into a cottage at the graveyard with his au pair and his son Ben.
I found this to be a very touching story – believable too.

The author wrote a thriller that started with a bang and just kept going! The twists kept coming, so I couldn’t put it down. I cannot wait to read more from this author!

Gripping tale of crime and abuse with a persecuted British cop to save the day! A real page turner! What with drug running kids, ruthless criminal gangs into human trafficking, a serial killer with a loathing for the homeless and the lead character cop’s imploding career and beleaguered domestic life, this thriller kept me fascinated from start to finish.
Good writing and a twisting plot with building urgency and action made this story a winner in my book.
4.5 stars
There is a good and intricate plot which kept me engrossed all the way through to a very dramatic conclusion. With a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end, I am very pleased to hear that Temple will be back in book three. 4.5*

Thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. This is the second book in the DI Temple series and works well as a stand alone.

The pace is fast from the beginning. The investigation reveals trafficking, abuse, drug dealing and corruption within the police force. There are some twists to keep you guessing what’s going to happen next. It’s both gripping and addictive. This is the second book in this series but it could be read as a standalone. A good read.

This is a fast moving tale involving drug smuggling, people trafficking and child prostitution not to mention the revelation that a serial killer has been disposing of homeless people in the area for many years.
Temples private life is in uproar his professional life hanging by a thread but that wont stop him solving the case one way or another.
I really enjoyed this one and the cliff hanger ending has left me anticipating what will happen in book 3.
