The views out onto the Nile River are breathtaking and, in the interests of research, I just had to check out. After negotiating the armed security on the gate, I managed to persuade them to let me view the room where Agatha Christie stayed and wrote Death on The Nile. A smiling assistant concierge appeared and escorted me to the room, telling me during the journey in the lift that he’d started work at the hotel as a shoe shine boy and had worked his way up. Finally we reached an imposing corridor where he guided me to Room 1201 and opened the door, revealing this beautiful suite of rooms and a sublime view of the Nile from the balcony….
